This bill details the Public Disclosure of Cyber Security
Breaches in the state of California. SB 1386 regulates privacy
and disclosure requirements placed on companies and agencies
that retain "private information" of customers and
constituents. The bill requires disclosure of any security
breach to any California resident who may possibly be affected
by the incident. Security breaches, where private information
has been made public, can require press releases, public announcements
and widespread coverage of the event. This may result in unfavorable
outcomes for the company or agency suffering the breach.
