Kerry, Snowe Push SEC and PCAOB on Sarbanes-Oxley Extension for Small Business

Senators Kerry and Snowe have asked the SEC and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to give small public companies more time to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). SOX compliance rules for Section 404 are expected to change following recommendations by the SEC and PCAOB in June. The Senators state that smaller companies with more limited infrastructure need more time to take these changes to SOX compliance into account. They also ask for additional assistance for small companies complying with Sabanes-Oxley, including a small business SOX compliance assistance guide. Finally, they recommend that the SEC Advisory Committee on Smaller Public Companies give regular reports on how the costs of SOX compliance can be minimized and on the impact of Section 404.
