Sarbanes-Oxley News Article:

CFOs say 'Repeal Sarbox!' But does that matter?

A recent report shows that three quarters of U.S. CFOs believe that the Sarbanes-Oxley Act should be repealed. Sarbanes-Oxley was created to restore investor confidence following a series of high profile financial scandals, but many business advocates believe its costs exceed its benefits. Last month, however, costs associated with compliance with Section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley had fallen twenty-three percent. This, combined with recent changes to the law from the SEC and from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, should quiet some of the criticism, but it hasn't yet. Though it may be hard to quantify the benefits of Sarbanes-Oxley, recent changes may mean equilibrium to the cost-benefit analysis may be on the horizon.
