Article:
May strong for VC backed IPOs in U.S.
Venture capital-backed medical, health, life science, and IT companies have raised $1.6 billion through IPOs on U.S. markets in May, with IT companies displaying the highest level of performance. The first five months of 2007 have seen the highest number of venture-backed IPOs since 2000, which has been attributed to companies "weathering the technology bubble" and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) costs. SOX compliance costs have been blamed for hampering financial growth in the U.S., which prompted recent revisions to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act by the SEC and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. It is hoped that these changes will reduce the costs of SOX compliance so the economy will continue to display signs of progress.
