Sarbanes-Oxley News Article:

SEC OKs relaxed Sarbanes-Oxley standard

The SEC voted unanimously to approve the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board's Auditing Standard No. 5 (AS5), which is intended to make compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) less costly and time consuming. This new standard will focus management's attention on high level risks to corporations. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act is intended to improve corporate accountability and financial transparency, but has proven to be quite unwieldy for companies trying to achieve SOX compliance. The SEC will continue to monitor the PCAOB to ensure that accounting firms are implementing AS5 properly. This new guidance is also expected to help small companies achieve SOX compliance, which they are expected to do this year.
